Eye Exams: What to Expect at Eye Gallery, Your Plano Optometrist
Your optometrist in Plano is available to provide you with your annual eye exam. It is always recommended that individuals receive at least an annual eye exam. This exam helps to ensure your vision is the best it can be while also providing an opportunity to pinpoint any disease or eye condition as soon as possible. When you visit the Eye Gallery, our team will work closely with you to ensure you receive a comprehensive eye exam.
What Happens During an Eye Exam?
There are two main portions to an eye exam. We’ll want to look at your eye’s health and structure. And, we’ll also want to determine the quality of your vision. The first part of your exam will focus on your vision. We call this vision acuity testing. We’ll ask you to read from a chart while we change the lenses in front of your eyes. If you have any vision limitation, this is reflected in the refraction within your eyes. We can use basic, noninvasive testing to determine what your vision is and, if necessary, to provide you with an updated prescription.
The second part of the eye exam is a look at your eye health. We’ll use a handheld light to look deep into your eye. We’re looking for any changes in the structure from previous visits. With this type of testing, along with a few other pressure screenings, we can look for signs of eye disease such as glaucoma, macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, and much more. Our goal here is to pinpoint the start of these conditions so proper treatment is always available.
Eye exams are not invasive. They do not hurt. We may recommend dilation if there is a need to do so, such as the potential presence of eye disease.
